Placed under the gravel on the bottom surface of the aquarium, the filter plates utilize the gravel bed as a source area and provide oxygen by recirculating the water down through the media and up through the uplift tubes. Undergravel filters clean and filter the water by pulling it down through the gravel, trapping contaminates in the gravel and leaving the water clear and healthful for fish. The gravel provides both the mechanical filtration needed to trap the large particulates of excess food and fish feces, and the surface area to cultivate biological activity for cleaning the water of dangerous biological by-products such as Ammonia.

Disposable Cartridges keep tanks clean and healthy! These are easy-to-install cartridges filled with high-grade, activated carbon (for sparkling clear water) or Zeolite (for ammonia removal). They are designed to fit Lee’s® Economy, Original or Premium Under Gravel Filters.

LE13005 is a refillable Carbon Cartridge which is truly Universal. It has a variable connector which fits any 7/8", 15/16", 1", and 1-3/16" under gravel filter uplift tubes. This connector enables the cartridge to be used with any Lee’s® under gravel filter and most other under gravel filters.
